Lightroom Sharpen in Dog Photography

hi everyone and thanks again for
stopping and seeing these new week’s episode to rock in Lightroom super
simple first of all thanks again to all those people that are following the
channel and that are subscribing the channel my little channel this is
filling me so rewarded and motivated to go ahead I think you will love a lot
these new episode because I’m going to tell you exactly what I do to sharpen my
pictures especially the dogs dogs in action or in portrait is the same but I
will explain you exactly the numbers I use to make them sharpened now it’s time
to go hi today I want to war with this picture is a photo I took last year in
dandelions filled with one dog of mine is lip she is amazing
she is three year and enough white four years old and it’s interesting because
it’s exactly or quite in the Clyde it’s the side bakelite is very interesting to
post process this picture because you can see exactly how can I reach a grid
sharpened or sharpen in the picture and how I can control the detail and the
noise inside the picture is the picture I took with 300 millimeters 2.8 mm in a
second iso 200 and to start with this picture i need to start with the basic
panel i want to work with the detail but i need to adjust the shadows a bit
because it’s not visible quite not visible so i want to apprise the shadow
and the exposure a bit and another interesting thing is that is exactly the
straight out of the camera so you can see exactly the picture I took with my
camera not working that was process it not cropping nothing this is what I
usually teach my workshop so I want people to reach the result they want in
their camera without it’s too easy to crop I want to use the
maximum quality of the lens so let’s start developing the picture with the
basic panel a bit apprised in a bit the warmness of the picture because I think
I like format and I want to add a bit of exposure in this way
25 is enough is something that Lightroom is suggesting making a roasted Jessamine
with the shift you know double-click if you don’t know if you
don’t remember it you can check my last videos too to learn it then I go on with
the shadows and apprised the shadow I can ask him ask him ask to the software
what he’s suggesting suggested 61 and we can start in this way to see what’s
happened I don’t want to spend much time too much time in the basic panel or in
the turn cure rod color if you want to use them check my previous videos and
you can learn everything about the tone cure panel and the color panel the split
toning is something we will do in the future is very interesting sometimes and
today we will face to the detail is very interesting this is telling us that we
need to zoom in a bit because for accurate preview the zoom should be at
least 100 percent so you if you click it you go to 100% but you can quickly here
is exactly the same so the detail panel is divided into area into menu into
panel and the first is dedicated to the sharpening and the second to denies
reduction because all the time you apprised the exposure and shadow in
backlight where you don’t have many information many info you are going to
apprise the noise so let’s see what’s happening and how to control it so let’s
start from the first menu inside the detail panel is called sharpening and is
divided in the mount radius detail and masking let’s see one by one what is
happening in our picture the amount is exactly the strength of the sharpening
in our picture we can zoom in a rod with zoom in so we can apprised it a lot to
the maximum that is 1 and 50 or going down to zero to see better
image I will jump two to one to see what is happening in the eye and the ears of
the dog let’s see what’s happened with the
amount you can see I’m adding noise and to see it better I can click and hold
down the key alt and moving the slider you can see in black and white the
picture I’m adding noise in the background and all the rest the picture
is very visible and well visible in the background going down I’m going to the
original picture where everything is so smooth so we need to add but without
destroying so let’s start adding a bit to understand what is happening inside
our picture and to understand it better I will put it to the maximum okay it’s
150 so destroying a bit the background then I proceed with the radius what is
the radius the radius is the distance to from the edges of the picture where the
sharpening is affecting the pixel so if I click register now the Alt key you can
see exactly what I’m affecting going up with the radius to 3.0 and going down to
the minimum that it’s 0.5 so it’s quite well understandable where I’m affecting
the picture with the sharpening the Morrigan and the more I’m sharpening the
picture and I would say yeah it’s amazing it’s not it’s not for a reason
I’m not working on a car I’m not working on an object I’m not working on a human
face this is terrible many people and meet you are reading
many books about sharpening the picture about sharpen human faces car bicycle
landscape is totally different from a dog where we have a lot of detail inside
the fool we have the air that should be preserved in the white and in the black
this is very nice picture because it’s black and white so not so easy to
control so it’s very complicate and you know you need to understand what you are
doing you can do that but it’s not the best because the more you go down
and you are not affecting to match the picture I found a way to manage the
radius this is my rule I would say that this is a rule I found I’ve found in the
past is my trademark again is something that quite not one does so look what I
usually do I go in the radius and this is my rule and it’s very understandable
when you stay with under the value one and one point one you are improving you
are sorry you are exploding the full of a dog of an animal where the details are
inside every part every higher inside for so you need to preserve them you
can’t go up too much because if you are melting the hair together you are
destroying the quality of the picture it’s interesting I told you for big
object for smooth object this is the secret the most object need a sharpening
with radius above 1 but fine details need the radius under 1 this is my rule
please don’t forget it I’m giving this rule to you I think is very useful don’t
forget it especially if you are working with animals that have a 4 ok like a dog
and then we can proceed so I will leave one and then we can proceed with the
detail in this way and about the detail we can do the same solving down the key
halt and see what’s happened we can preserve a lot but we will see also
inside the noise if I go down the noise is quite remove it
look remove it add it so we need to find again another rule my role is to stay in
what camera roll usually suggest so stay at 25 don’t move it from there you can
apprise as a bit if you are not in backlight but if you are in backlight
don’t exaggerate we will try with 13 in about the masking or the masking is so
awesome because the masking can mask the picture look hold down the alt button
they all key and move the slider of masking
everything is white and what does it mean that all the white part are
affected by the sharpening and the more I go up and the more the black pad
appear what does it mean simply that the black part are not affected by the
sharpening so come back to the color and you can see now I’m affecting everything
now I’m not affecting most of the part exactly the black part so when is nice
to use this parameter especially with car smooth object big object car
landscapes human faces portrays of humans but not before so pay a lot of
attention because the black part are affecting before so we need to go down
not to zero but something like that twenty some time is enough so I’m
affecting the food without destroying before most of the time is quite
unbelievable I leave it to zero simply because if I
see too much noise is because I’ve a jug exaggerated with the amount do you
remember I didn’t touch them out yet so I need to
go back a bit so he stared off at the masking I remove amount in this way so
something like that I usually don’t exaggerate I stay something like between
40 and 80 it is really a lot not more and about the radios I told you not go
don’t go over one 1.1 1.2 you can go down even to one and it’s quite better
okay because we are affecting only the small details especially and not the
smooth part then we can proceed but because we have generated noise and I
can see it better if I jump to eighth one or maybe for one is very well
visible the noise I want to show you what is happening let’s jump to the
basic menu a bit and apprise the shadow to show you what is happening in the
ears look this red point this is not only noise this is noise with red point
this is red point so there are colors inside the shadow
and the wines and it’s very very very well visible in this reflector
reflection and in the year so I will use the years to explain you how to control
it let’s jump to the detail menu but to the
second partner to the Sharpie but to the noise reduction to make it visible more
and more I will apprise the sharpening a bit so you can see exactly you can see
very well what is the noise it’s very noisy it’s so bad you can see here is
not visible but we are not zooming here at zoomin and you can see very well the
noise so with the luminance we can control the noise of the picture look I
can go and I’m controlling the noise of the picture and I will leave it to zero
in this moment with the color we are controlling the color that is made it is
not natural is an artifact that we add thanks to the fact that we apprised it
the shadow and and the exposure of the picture look what happened with if I
apprise to the maximum the color so the red point are going away so the fake
color that I add is going away that’s gonna sit better at eight one so you can
see exactly this is the maximum adjustment I can do this is the minimum
so the nothing without doing anything and destroying totally the year so I
will add color adjustment to reduce it a bit something like when I see the color
disappear 3434 is enough and then I jump back to one and one in my picture
then I recon troll the basic menu and I go down a bit with the shadow that I use
it to make it visible better and I down down lift the sharpening because I have
exaggerated just to show you what up what is happening inside the years so
this is exactly the picture without and with sharpness okay inside the eyes this
is the maximum sharpness with carriage but because is
enough this is amazing we played with the detail we can look inside with two
one in the eyes what is happening I would like to add a bit more of
sharpening in which way adding amount so I go up in the amount till I reach a
situation like this where the where I don’t see any noise in the eye but I
have a good a good eye in this way you see without and with it’s really enough
for us even too much so I will reduce a bit without and with so before and after
okay now it’s something that I’m going to show you how to make it better to
improve how to improve the image more and more I will go to this menu you know
dedicate it to the brushes we saw it in the last video but I will do a lesson
dedicated exactly to how to use the brushes the radial filter and the
graduated filter and the all the rest today I want to use this again the
radial filter to show you how to improve the sharpness on the picture you click
drag and drop something like that put it in the center of the dock and what you
have to do is just remove clarity remote remove a bit of clarity
you see I’m removing clarity and I’m going to make everything motor just a
bit smoother okay something like that before and after before and after and we
can close I can exaggerate yes but it’s better to don’t exaggerate
all the time the cell phone the second thing that I want to do is to explore
the color of the eyes so let’s go back to the basic menu a bit and I rise a bit
the shadow because this is too much and I will go in the eyes in which way with
we can use two way to go there the first is to use the radial gradient the second
is to use the brush today I want to use again a radial
filter in this way high-quality radial gradient that is filter in this way is a
filters or ideal filter and I will add a bit of exposure no clarity inside the
dog so not outside but inside of the dog in this way to make it more visible the
face more interesting in this way and because I don’t want to add you see if I
continue to add a special I’m affecting all the dog but I don’t want to
exaggerate with those parts so when I added exposure so I’m checking just here
I go here in the brush so I’m inside the radial filter I click brush and then I
have a brush I click also hold down the Alt key I can remove some selection to
show it better what is happening I paint a bit so I paint here and here because
it’s a place where I don’t want to go look and also here because it was
already already very Brighton so look what happened in our mask I’ve just
remove it the mask from those parts so I’m inside I’m inside the radial filter
and I’ve just removed clicking alt you see the plus inside the circle becomes
an – okay and then I click done and this way I’ve just added light but without
touching the brightest part of the image the second thing I do is going inside
the picture with – one something like that and I want to paint the eyes so I
click the brush so this is the panel dedicated to the brush and I had 100% of
clarity a bit of exposure and a bit of white and what I do and a bit now I
reduce a bit of noise and I reduce the dimension of my brush especially the
fatter so I go down in this way and I paint inside okay make it smaller
something like that and paint I don’t want to see the mask but I want to see
their results and a bit awareness so something like that okay then the second
thing I do then I do similar work in the other eye so click and again with the
same parameter but removing a bit awareness I paint the other eyes of the
other eye of the dog okay something like that you can see the reflection inside
the eyes so it’s done going outside and you see exactly our dog because it’s too
much we can cut off is really really bright we can go again in the menu
dedicated to the brushes click the last brush that we used and wait okay it was
this one the last brush that we use and reduce a
bit the exposure because it’s too much something like that I like it a lot in
this way we can go on so we can jump and remove these bad this really bad color
right and to do that I simply add a brush here I reset all the parameters
clicking twice on the effect and then I add the brush on those part that I want
to affect so where the reflection is visible but because it’s a white and
black black and white dog I want to teach you a very easy way to adjust it
there are many way to do it but this is the easiest one so I click and I add the
brush here removing saturation in this way and I paint to be sure that I’m
painting all the dog I click show selected mask overlay so I can be sure
to have paint all the part of the four in this way
okay I try to make it bigger maybe just a bit to make it faster I go up this way
and maybe in the dedicated lesson if you are interesting I will show you how to
remove the color casting from brown dog to and so on because it’s very very easy
it’s very simple I like the simple way to do something so I will remove it I
will make it smaller a bit the brush because I want to paint also inside yes
here between the eyes in this way this way and in this way I think is almost
finished and I’ve done quite a good work because black and white also the nose I
will paint it too not the eyes in this way okay it’s very well visible and
remove the mask we don’t need it anymore but you can see exactly point one you
can see exactly how I affected the dog before and after okay then we can remove
it I remove a bit more something like that
then then a second thing that I want to do is a add is to add another brush
exactly in those parts that for me are very important like the pose so what I
want to do is just to add a bit of exposure and rights and highlights in
this way and I paint here and apprise in the shadow a lot and I paint I want them
to be really really interesting in this way ok nothing more because I want them
to be reveal it more and more instead of the chest of the dog and it’s done the
last thing that we are going to do is to add the vignetting there are many way to
add the vignetting I want to use again the radial filter because it’s very easy
so I point in the center I make it really big
something like that over the dock and I resent everything clicking twice in
effect and I reduce the exposure I’m affecting outside the dog you see
something like that I reduced the fetter you can play with the fetter making it
to 100 or more solid something like that a bit bigger okay so I will do something
like that so a small anything done before and after and because I want the
black to be more contrasted more deep I will go to the tank you’re a bit down
lifting a bit the shadows and apprising a bit the highlights okay something like
that and it’s finished nothing more and it’s ended and because we didn’t do any
crop at the beginning I will do it now just to show you something more focuses
on duck and I will jump to a big zoom to fix this detail in which way using any
limb brush I will explain you exactly how it works in any dedicated tutorial
but today I want to remove it in this way immediately because I don’t want it
anymore something like that okay it’s so ok go
to one to one let me see done okay it’s better so because a person
asked me to show you the before and after slowly this is the before and this
is the after before and after and it’s very nice we didn’t use the graduated
filters and out of things but I wanted this video focuses on the details and
noise that we can save and exploit in the picture especially when we are in
difficult condition conditions like the lies and so on so I hope you enjoy the
video so before and after again before and after again and if you like it
please support me with the like a comment and subscribe in the channel and
see you the next week bye bye
